Living in Anticipation of God’s Goodness

Years ago I made a simple yet life-changing decision—I would wake up every day with anticipation, expecting God to do something good. Each morning, before I started my day, I would say, “God, what are You going to do today?” The more I looked for His goodness, the more I saw it unfold. Sometimes it came through an unexpected financial blessing, a timely call from a friend, or an answered prayer. Of course, some days felt ordinary—but I realized that when I wasn’t anticipating God’s goodness, I often missed it in the simple, everyday moments.
A few days ago, what seemed like an ordinary grocery trip turned into a beautiful reminder of this truth. As I walked down the frozen foods aisle, I noticed the sweetest elderly couple standing together, debating over which ice cream to choose. When they saw me, they quickly apologized for blocking the way. I laughed and reassured them that I was in no hurry. That small moment turned into a heartfelt conversation. They shared how much they enjoyed meeting kind people at the grocery store, and as we talked, the elderly man looked at me and said, “I’m 91 years old, and I can’t wait to get to heaven. I just hope I hear my Savior say, ‘Welcome home, my good and faithful servant.’”
I was undone. Right there in the frozen foods aisle, I fought back tears, deeply moved by this unexpected encounter. What I thought was just another routine errand became a divine moment—one that I might have missed had I not been living with anticipation, expecting God to show up in the ordinary.
God is Waiting to Be Good to You
God’s goodness isn’t reserved for big miracles or extraordinary circumstances. He is moving every single day, longing to pour out His kindness in ways both big and small. But we have to live with anticipation—we have to wake up expecting Him to move.
Isaiah 30:18 (AMPC) says it beautifully:
“Therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you… Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him.”
God is eagerly looking for those who are anticipating His goodness. He desires to bless, to guide, and to reveal His love in ways we often overlook. But we must choose to see it—we must expect Him to move, even in the ordinary.
So today, I encourage you—start anticipating something good. God is already working behind the scenes, and when your breakthrough arrives, you’ll see that He has been preparing it all along.
I’ve made it a habit to declare this over my life every day, and I encourage you to do the same:
“God is good, and something good is going to happen to me today!”
Whether you see it yet or not, keep praying, keep expecting, and keep anticipating—because God is longing to be gracious and good to you!
